Proper size Racor

My 37.5 Hunter has a 3JH2E Yanmar on it. It uses a Racor 110 primary fuel filter. It was recently suggested to me that I should install a larger filter (such as a RACOR 24?). My question is: is the Racor 110 the proper size filter for that engine? I recognize that a larger filter has a larger capacity to trap more residue, but is it worth it to have a larger filter installed? Another question. In a recent response, you indicated that the 3JH is a "self bleeder". Is this because of the little hand driven fuel pump on it, or something else?

Wonder why?

George: I wonder why "they" would say such a thing. These filters are rated at 15 gph. Unless you are getting very dirtly fuel and not changing the filter on a regular basis why would you need to change your system. Have you had any problems? Another option would be to add an additional filter Racor 110 in the line and have a 30 micron filter in the first one and a smaller 2 or 10 micron filter in the second one.

Don't need bigger filter

Your engine uses .5-1 g/p/h, maybe 2 racked up? I have the dinkiest Racor on my 3GM30 works fine.

Transparent Bowl

I prefer a filter with a transparent bowl. You can then see immediately whether you have some sediment, water or just plain ugly fuel. I also had racor 110's which rusted on the inside.
