Proper Hose Adapter 1&3/4" to 1&1/2"

I am trying to clean up the plumbing on my sailboat this winter. The previous owner had a strange setup that did not seem safe for attaching the head to the holding tank. I soon realized why. The input connector for the holding tank does not seem replaceable easily and it is 1&3/4". I can't seem to find any parts to adapt from my 1&1/2" output from the head to the 1&3/4" input of the holding tank.

Does anyone have any ideas of what I could do? The previous setup was a rubber drain hose from Home Depot that fit over the outside of the head discharge hose and over the holding tank intake flange.

Are you 100% certain the tank fitting really is 1.75? How are you measuring it? The correct size is the ID (inside diameter) of the threaded part of the opening.

If it really is 1.75, the best solution would be: take it to plastics fabricator who can spinweld a new 1.5" fitting into the tank...a threaded plug wrapped in teflon tape will seal the existing one.

The next best solution is still a threaded plug and a new fitting, but a DIY job using a UniSeal UNISEAL http://www.aussieglobe.com/Instructions-for-Using-THE-ORIGINAL-UNISEAL_b_1.html and a 6" piece of 1.5" OD (outer diameter) PVC. I wouldn't recommend this for a discharge port at the bottom of the tank, but it works just fine for vent fittings and inlet ports on plastic tanks. In fact, as long as you'd be replacing the inlet fitting, this would be a good time to put a larger vent fitting in the tank too. Uniseal Instructions
