I have a Hunter 33 yacht (year 2009). Its propeller is the standard two wings and I intend to replace it with a three wing one. I would appreciate your professional recommendation per what options we have and advantages/disadvantages of each.

Consider replacing with a low cost 3 bladed fixed propeller at lower cost but may have some drag under sail.

I would suggest that you take a look at a Campbell Sailor prop or a Kiwi. Depending on your budget these props should help your motor & sailing performance.

Mine has a Vari-Prop. A little more expensive, but really makes a difference in reverse and less drag while sailing.

I also have a 2009 Hunter 33 and replaced my 2-blade with a low-cost 3-blade. Huge increase in power and stopping ability - but - there is definitely some drag when under sail, and it is made very apparent by a very annoying whirring noise from the prop if the transmission is left in neutral. If you have the money for it, go for the vari-prop.

Thanks guys. I'll check the Vari-Prop. Hopefully it is not TOO expensive. Any ideas of potential manufacturers?

Meirgerner, I also have a 2009 H33 but mine came with the 3 blade 14" prop (part of the Mariner Package). On the upside I can say that I love it! The boat stops on a dime and has a great reverse, additionally, there is very little or no prop walk. On the downside there is a lots of drag. At 5 kts it audibly vibrates and can be heard throughout the boat (I run with the transmission in reverse). I have considered a vari prop just because of the vibration and reduction of drag (I would also like the .5 knot increase in speed as well) but it is hard to justify the $3000+ cost to do either of these. Especially when the Admiral gives me "the look" for suggesting it... LOL
