I saw a propane tank mounted on a Catalina 42 transom, and I would like to replace the alcahol stove in my Hunter 34 using a similar tank mount.
does anyone know a shop in southern cal. that makes these.

Transom mount

I had to custom build mine as none are on the market that I could find. Any welding/fab shop should be able to build one for you. Here is a pic of mine, very simple and basic. Gary.

Luke:

Here is a link to the Trident LPG lockers. Have you considered one of the Seaward units? They can be installed in a locker so they do not look so bad and are also slightly less expensive too.

You'll probably need a custom build one. If your capacity needs allow, consider using a smaller tank. A 10# or even a 5# will be smaller, lighter and easier to handle. The corresponding bracket can be lighter too. A tank cover made out of canvas would not only help the aesthetics of the boat but would protect the tank and regulator from the elements. Hauling a full 20# steel propane tank from and to the stern of the boat can be a back breaker.

The small new composite tanks are great. No rust, less money than AL tanks and you can see how much fuel remains in them.

Electric shut off at the tank will be required. For your own safety and by your insurance company (if not now when your next insurance survey comes up).

I have also heard that one can convert a bumper rack into containing a propane tank. All that is required is the correct size single bumper holder a bottom support board and a few SS hose clamps.

Propane Tank Stern Pulpit Holder Thingy

I simply attached a SS Fender Holder on my stern pulpit. Placed an aluminum 10# tank in it. The new Fiberglass tanks would work well too!

The "floor" of the tank holder is a piece of teak knotched out to wedge into the rounded SS frame bottom. It's worked well for me for over 10 years now on my Legend 35...

See stern pulpit area of uploaded pix below!
