Propane Tank Replacement

Tried to fill our original Worthington propane tank, but was denied because of new regulations. Wanting to replace it, but after checking out Worthington on the web it appears that all of their tanks are just a little bigger than our propane locker will hold. Any recommendations?

Same Problem, no answer yet

Have same problem on '94 270 with a Seaward propane locker, Previous Owner replaced tank with new one but it is just a little too tall to close the lid. I'm going to check with major propane distributor nearby first chance I get, I'll let you know if I find anything out.

Check REI online

We got advice through our Catalina 34 Association to check out REI - we looked online and it appears that they have it - exact size for the locker...headed there now. If not there, can order online. We will let you know when we get back. Thanks.

The 4.25 Lb Bottle ?

Are you looking at the 4.25 Lb. bottle ? I'll check dimensions, current bottle in my 270 is just a hair too tall, lid goes on but you can only latch 1 side. Thanks for the REI link, been a member for decades and never even thought of them.

The REI Tank Should Fit

Ted -The REI bottle should fit. It is about 11x9, which is the size of our current tank that fits in the blue and white locker. I ordered it today for about $50. The other tanks I looked at were 12x9 which was just a little too tall - I am assuming that is what you currently have. We went to REI today, but we could only get that size off the website - keep your fingers crossed. It will take about 10 days for it to arrive.

I found out about the size difference AFTER I bought the new 1.2 gal tank. I ended up putting the new one in storage and getting the old tank filled in an out-of-the way trailer park. Shame on me, but a new containment locker would cost well over $200 and still not fit very well, or at all under the lazerette.

Can they retrofit old bottle ?

Thanks guys, I wonder if a big propane dist. can retrofit old bottles ? They do hydrotesting and stuff, if they could probably would cost more then new bottle.

Retro fit

Hi;I had my tank on my 96 Catalina30 changed to the opd valve. Took about an hour and they charged me $25, including refiling the tank. Same height as the old valve.fair windsDave
