I have converted to a propane cooking system instead of the messy kerosine system and cannot seem to find a suitable location for the bottle. I am currently usig a 10 lb. bottle but would like to use the normal 25 lb. bottle. I just dont like it tied to the pushpit rails. Is there a economical cure for this?

Take a Look...

...at Gene's solution on his H37C. Gene's got a great site: http://www.io.com/~edebee/chaser/chaser/boatmods/boatmod.htm

Good question.

Some of us have been discussing this thru e-mail. At least two of us have decided to stay with kerosene or alcohol for that reason, no place to put the tanks. Gene's solution is fine if you don't need the transom for anything else. The new Tartan 3500 I looked at had two of the 10# bottles. That doesn't take much room but you would have to engineer the lockers. There is certainly room in the starboard or aft lockers if you don't mind giving up the storage. But even one 25# bottle wouldn't fit. Tough problem, let us know how you solve it.

Not fun!

I see you found my project. Although it does work, and accomplished everything we wanted, it was one heck of a lot of work to build those lockers. http://www.geocities.com/TheTropics/Cabana/7414/propane.html I can say that we have found that we didn't need the 30 lb. bottles, 20's would work just fine. And, since a new 30 lb. bottle is about $55, as opposed to around $22 for a 20# bottle, there is some money to be saved. I have heard from a couple of people who made or bought propane lockers and installed them in the starboard lazerette, but they all said that it wasted an unusually large amount of space. I expect it also killed any access they had to the motor through that locker. Would I do it again? Well, yes, I guess, but only because I can't figure out another place to put them.
