has anyone experienced a ticking noise from the prop spinning when under sail? I know it's from the shaft spinning I just don't know how to abate the noise. Maybe check the shaft / engine alignment?

put in reverse
happens with most props (at least on boats I have sailed on). Put in reverse to stop the prop. Just don't forget to put in neutral before you start the engine again... Engine manual warns NEVER to put in forward gear when sailing.
