Looks like I will finally get V2933, Renee, back in the water in time
for some late fall/early winter sailing. I checked the manuals for
prep. procedures. They seem to indicate greasing of the prop,
stuffing box, and combi are suggested. I found the grease fitting
for the combi. I didn't see a fitting for the stuffing box. Should
one be there? My Vega is a '76 with MD6B. If one should be there,
does any one have a picture of where it should be, or can describe
it? If not, then how do you grease the stuffing box?
When I installed the VAGB zinc kit, I noticed a small lump of metal,
only slightly raised above the surface, that was covered by the
zinc. I tried to stick my head in the sand by convincing myself it
was just a fault in the casting. Now I am wondering if the lump used
to be a grease fitting, as I don't see one anywhere on the prop. Is
there supposed to be a grease fitting of some sort? Does it get
covered by the Zinc Kit? If the lump of metal was a grease fitting,
how should I fix it? Is the fitting screwed in? If so, then I could
try extracting the remains of the old fitting and installing a new
one. Is it metric? or a U.S. standard size? If it isn't a fitting,
then how does one grease the prop unit? Any other suggested fixes?
Thanks,
Chris Stevens
