Prop Spinning

I have a 1985 Catalina 27 with a M-18 Universal Engine. For some reason the prop continues to spin under sail with the gear in neutral. Any suggestions why this might be happening?

that is normal. If it bothers you, you can install a shaft lock.

I have a C 27 TR with the A-4 gas engine. I always (try to remember) to put the gearshift lever in reverse, or forward to keep the prop from spinning while sailing. I do this because the xmission gets its lubrication from engine oil under pressure while, of course, the engine is operating. The prop may not turn at a high rpm, nevertheless...... I forget the type /brand xmission my 1979'er has. This makes alotta sense to me..... Jim Huhta S/V "SEA-130" Sturgeon Bay, WI
