hi, just got my hunter 27 in sept. it has the 8 hp yanmar diesel, it came with 12/8 prop on it ,yet the factory specs say a 13/9 was original, now i know that 8 hp in a hull that heavy is not gonna be like my old grady-white , but this is not that responsive, other problem is the control panel does not have a tach, so can't check again rpm's. will a 13/9 help or not . thanks

I have the same exact boat with the original

prop. The boat is definitely the slow boat to China. However, it does move along quick enough to get me from one point to the other. I also have the yanmar sb8 and just had the entire top end of the engine rebuilt. Ouch, I took it to the Mac Boring facility near the Cape. I had a new exhaust elbow installed along with the head total rebuild.....$750! Oh, well piece of mind. The injector had never been removed, which forced me to remove the head entirely to have the pros get it out. It took the best in the business a week of soaking and heating to remove the injector.

I have the same engine. But, not sure which prop. If you can get to about 7 mph (on a GPS), that's about all you can get regardless of the prop. The smaller prop might give you a little less prop walk in reverse. Without a tach I find it best to open the trottle up till you get a little back smoke, then back off till it stops. That usually give me about 5.5 to 6 mph. You bought a fun little boat.

Be sure to keep the prop clean of barnacles, too. They will really cut down on your speed.
