I bought a 1.25" drill bit with a .5" shaft. I have a sealed bearing .5" ID 1.25" OD.
The bearing slides over the .5" shaft of the drill bit and then will fit into the end of the strut. By applying sideways pressure in the correct direction of the drill, I'm hoping it will cut away the brass on the tip end of the drill and leave the butt end material un-cut. Once I remove the correct amount of material I will epoxy the new cutlass bearing in place. If it ever needs replacing again, just heat with a torch and it will destroy the epoxy. I will take some pics during and let you know how it works.
