I am looking for advice on props for my 1990 33-2. I have a 3 blade fixed prop that I am looking to change over to a folding prop. I have checked Flexofold and Gori and they both seem like good props. Does anyone have any experience with either of these props? Was there any problems in installing the prop on the shaft? Thanks.

Flexofold

I just installed a Flexofold prop on my Pearson 32, no problem at all. I did need a deep socket to install the prop nut, and it really should be 1/2" drive. The prop looked like a bronze work of art when I got it, and well it might for what they charge. I haven't even gotten the boat back in the water yet, so I can't give you a performance report. Maybe tomorrow.

Flexofold

Recently installed a three blade flexofold on my Schock 35. It performs very well. If you want three blades you have flexofold and Gori. Gori is more expensive. If you want two blades I would add Martec to the list. I went with Flexofold since they are the only manufacturer that published test data on their website and they cost a bit less than Gori. (Still not inexpensive!)

Flexofold

Sandy, Thanks for the info, you will have to let me know how the boat performs with the new prop. It looks like it went right on the shaft and fit the keyway with no problems.Did Flexofold need alot of details as to the saft size and keyway to send you the proper prop to fit your shaft?

flexofold results

OK, got the boat in the water and tried it out. It sails like a bat out of hell now - I figure I picked up close to a knot in boatspeed, but some of the credit has to go to the (somewhat overdue) bottom job. Performance under power is better, too, but I have to add that the original three-blade prop was oversized for the motor. Now for the bad news - serious vibration above 1800 or so RPM. It starts to smoothe out some above 2800 RPM, but it is a problem. Of course, I'll recheck the shaft alignment, but I have a bad feeling the shaft is whipping. This may be due to the shaft length - the prop hub is some 4 inches or so aft of the strut. More to come. In answer to your question, the vendor will need to know your shaft size, but the keyway and taper should be standard. One thing - make sure there is room for the folded blades not to hit the rudder.

flexofold update

Well, after the boat has been in the water a week or two, the vibration has subsided quite a bit. Still there, but not as worrisome. I can only think that the hull distorted some while it was on jackstands and threw out the shaft alignment, and now it's coming back into shape. I love problems that fix themselves. I also love the increased performance from the folding prop.

Veriprop

has anyone used Veriprop/Verifold before? I have a P31 with a westerbeke 30 with a fixed two blade prop 16 x 10. They recommend I use a three bladed folded prop, this will reduce drag as well as provide enough power for heading into a heavy breeze or chop. I plan to order in January and install April 2007. Any feedback on their propellers?
