What do you recommend for a '87 C-30 with a m25 (disp 10500lbs) 21 or 23HP (I'm not sure)? The transmission is being rebuilt (BURNT CLUTCH and new shaft) and the exisiting martec was just about ready to fly apart. By reading some articles of my fellow C-30 owners it seems a 13 x 14 2-blade, is the prop of choice. any thoughts? I'd like to go with a 2 blade fixed... Would you recommend the dripless stuffing? Thanks! Richard

Same boat

I have the same boat with the M25. I just installed a prop from: http://www.westbynorth.com/ (the Campbell Sailor), and am very pleased with it. You can e-mail me with any other questions about the 1987 Catalina 30. Mine is standard rig, and fin keel. LOVE it. mpegler@gte.net

Not enough blade area w/2 blade fixed

I had a 2 blade 13x12 that I repitched to 13x14. ( 89 C-30, M25XP). I wouldn't do it again. While the 13x14 had a little better speed,it had a lot more propwalk, and wanted to go 3 kts at idle. There just isn't enough blade area to be able to use the 23 hp with a 13" diameter in 2 blades, you're just beating a hole in the water. A three blade is really needed to get a reasonable amount of blade area at 13". I choose a max-prop 3 blade, pitched @26 degree(12").

Recommended units.

Dear Richard: Our records show that the C-30 came with a 13” x 11” two blade. I’m surprised that the system would have worked for you with the 13” x 14” two blade. The installed prop should have created a great deal of overloading, which could explain the transmission failure. Hope this helps. Sincerely Kevin L. Woody
