Hi all,
I think I am under propped. I am looking for input on what props that are on your current boats. I am thinking about a 3 blade prop - I am lacking top end speed at 80% RPM. I currently have a CDI 14/10 two blade prop.
Please let me know, as the magic that is involved with selecting a prop from a vendor requires eye of newt, a chicken foot and some sort of sacrifice. :D
Thanks,
Mark

The PO on my 86 had gone to a 3 blade which was just fine. On the recommendation of the folks at Flexofold I went to a folding 2 blade because of the drag under canvas. A little less ooph against the current but I have not found a noticeable loss of top speed. Maneuvering in and out of the slip is a learning experience no matter what prop you have.

Expect Advise -

Do NOT take advise from a current user. Go to a reputable prop shop and make them responsible for the proper sizing for your vessel. If it turns out to over/under propped from one of "our" experts who is going to pay to have be boat hauled or a diver to R/R the prop?

PS: our H31 had a 14/9 CDI and it was not the "perfect" prop for that boat either.

I can agree with Steve that if you are shopping for a fixed blade prop, you should make sure you find someone who can determine the specifications for the proper blade. If you are thinking about some form of folding or feathering prop, it is probably safe to follow the prop manufacturer's recommendation, as I did.
