I currently have a 12 x 8 two bladed prop on my 1968 Morgan 30. Top speed under power is about 4.5 - 5 kts. The boat is powered by an Atomic 4. Running at 1200 rpms which seems to be optimum . I would like to get it to go a bit faster. I am wondering what props people are using on their boats. > Thanks, > Jim Gordon > S/V Allegory II > Norfolk, VA

Jim, I sail an Islander 30

When I re-powered I went with a 10hp diesel with a 3:1 reduction gear and a 13x15 three blade. I get about 6 kts. at about 2600 rpm engine. the thrust is very large if I try to run harder I bury the stern and push a large bow wave. My prop would be better if it were 13x13 three blade but for 75 bucks used in the marina shop beggars can't be choosers

Yer RPM is a little low

Ahoy Jim, You need to get a little more rpm from the Atomic Bomb the max horse power is up around 2600 rpm. Indigo Electronics has a prop designed for the A4 that really really works. I bought one about 6 years ago for my old boat and I was truly amazed at the improvement. I can't say enought about the thing.
