I'm planning (like alot of you) to have my boat hauled in a few weeks to get some maintenence done, and to re-paint. I have a couple of questions... I'm planning on changing the colour of the boat (white to blue) has anybody done this, and if so...has there been any problems with bleed through...i.e. is more paint required to cover the previous colour? The big one...I want to change my prop (nothing wring with it...it's just getting a little old). I was wondering if there are any distinct advantages of going with a folding prop. I mean, will I see any benefits while under way (better handling under power etc...) Any input would be greatly appreciated....

Some are better

I found that my FlexOFold on both my Pearson 28 and my current Ericson 35 outperformed the fixed two blade in both forward and reverse and with less prop walk. Propeller technology has come a long way since those boats were outfitted with their original fixed props. Tim R.

Maxi Prop

I have a 3 blade feathering Maxi and love it. Expensive, but a good prop. One nice thing is the pitch can be set, so if you find you need more or less, you can, on haul out, reset that.

Love my Autoprop

I love my Autoprop. It does a good job of driving the boat yet feathers back when under sail. No set up worries and minimal maintenance. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Ericson 35 MKIII

Hey Tim, I have an E35 MKIII Hull#211 M25-21hp Universal. Right now I get an odd howling noise at 2000 RPM and above. I am told it's a prop issue. (Prop Harmonics) Familiar with this? The current prop is a 3 blade 15x11RH. Another interesting note is that the motor is rated for approx 3000 rpm but at present we can only get 2400-2500 rpm out of her. Could this be a result of what I believe to be an oversized prop? I'm sure that the boat originally came with a 2 blade prop, but don't know the size. I am wondering if anyone knows what the original prop was for my boat. Also if anyone has any recommendations as to a better fixed prop for my boat, I would be grateful. Thanks, Steve Wallace, Campbell River, BC.

Neglected to ask

What is your boat and what is your engine. Important considerations.

Kiwiprop

very pleased with my three blade feathering Kiwiprop. $1250 del'd. Was skeptical , because of low price, until I read an article in Practical Sailor or Cruising World or whatever by a guy who's circumnavigated & raved about his. So I bought and am pleased. Had a fixed two blade. Way better reverse, better forward. Feels better sailing, but in truth the 1/2 knot or so gain that is expected is tough to tell because how do you truly tell? No two days are ever exactly the same.
