I would highly recommend that before you spend a penny on any"marine" binoculars, you check out stabilized binoculars. I haven't used my mega bucks Steiners in YEARS!
I purchased a pair of Canon 10 X 50 (over the marine standard of 7 X 35) stabilized binoculars and it is by far and away the best investment in marine safety equipment I have ever spent.
I made sure I could return them as I thought they would be a con. They are not!
The 10 X 50's are lighter and smaller than any quality pair of 7 X 35 binoculars and they stabilize the image to the point I can read the name on another yacht's transom as they sail by in rough weather with no trouble. Counting the seconds on a light? No problem; it stays right there in the center of your vision.
Do yourself a favor (hey its Christmas) and check these babies out. They really do the job. They are a little expensive (actually cheaper than the Steiners back when) but with care they should last quite a while.
