Well, I am making a hard decision and will sell BlackStar ASAP. I really don't want to, but the IT field is too erratic, my new company is outsourcing and I need to ensure I have as much reserves as possible. I thought I would throw it by all of you first, then off to internet and e-bay. I will look for 10k cash with all extras included. She is on hard in Portland CT and ground storage paid will June 2006.
Here is the text I am going to use on trader and e-bay. If anyone is interested let me know ASAP, I will work out a deal for forum members, I will list her after new years.
38’ Alden Challenger there were only 30-40 of these made and these are quite rare with the numbers of these actually left down to a hand full. This one was built in 1962 by Hallimatic. The Challengers were the first fiberglass-hulled Alden, but retained the graceful sheer of an earlier era. Built extremely solid with no cored decks makes these very solid boats.
These boats have beautiful mahogany raised cabin, mahogany trim, and solid Sitka spruce masts and booms. Yawl rigging makes sail handling manageable for two people.
I fell in love with this boat when I first saw her. Then lines, beautiful wood work and overall design is truly intoxicating.
Some of the great options with this one are the wonderful corner fireplace, solid teak interior and quality craftsmanship throughout
This one is very close to be completed; I unfortunately don’t have the funds or skills to do this myself, so I offer her up to those of you that either have the funds or skills.
I purchased this earlier this last year; it was seized by the boatyard for fees. The previous owner had many parts, documents, sails etc that I had to coordinate to make this deal work.
I have almost everything you need to bring this beauty back to her former greatness.
What you will need:
I have the wooden boom for main, it may be able to be saved, but I would go with Aluminum.
I have a new Aluminum main mast stock (no holes, etc), it needs to have masthead, tangs, etc. I have a masthead that can work but needs bolting or welding.
Work that needs to be done:
Rebuild the cockpit (work in-progress). All new wood installed for bridge deck and cockpit partially completed. All lumber used was Akume marine @ $250 per sheet, painted with epoxy primer.
Install the main cabin fixed ports (I have the original glass windows, and also had blueprints made from Boman windows for new windows ($900 quote)
Finish the cabin sides and top (patch, paint, varnish)
Chain plate fix was done 1 small hole in hull need to be patched and painted
Install and rig main mast (need some standing and running rigging)
What I have:
Tons of stuff!
Prints and documentation from Alden
9 new Sails
Winches, hardware, etc
New cushions for cockpit, saloon and v-berth
Too much to list, must see this stuff
