Progress on my wheel...

Well, I've made some progress on redoing my wheel. After a lot of sanding and wood filler and more sanding, I'm starting to see some results. I took it all apart, chiseled out the rot and started filling in holes and gouges. I found the wheel in the compartment with the fuel tank so you will notice 2 pieces (one is black and one not so black) that were soaked in diesel fuel. Had the idea to submerge in oil dry/cat litter to see if it would draw the fuel out. You can see the difference but not sure if the wood filler will stick to it or if it will take stain/teak oil. Will keep you posted. Hoping the wood filler will darken evenly with the wood when I stain it, if not, I guess it will be a unique striated look. No matter, it will be sealed to the elements and functional for around $10.00 and many, many hours of sanding.

Well, after a lot of wood filler and sanding, I have a rough layout. A final sanding and first coat of stain and she will be ready for re-assembly. Top center spindle is the one that was diesel soaked.
