Problems in flooring

I'm having soft spots showing up in my flooring just forward of the bilge compartment. I think there is water or moisture being retained underneath and is contributing to this problem. I'm thinking I'll pull it up and either reinforce it with fiberglass or change out the whole thing (but that's expensive). Anybody else have this problem?

Moisture in Flooring

Michael, I am not familiar with the configuration or model year of your H31; however, I had similar problems with my 1988 H33.5 that lead to the discovery of more serious problems. The sole just forward of the bilge compartment was damp and started delaminating. The source of the problem was a leaking thru deck fitting under the mast where the wiring entered into the cabin. Water leaked into the compression post and teak covering the post and finally onto the sole. The mast required removal, the compression post required removal and refabrication, the teak covering the post required replacement, and the small piece of teak sole required replacement. Hope your problem isn't as complicated.

Just fixed the same problem

My soft SPOTS were forward of the bilge by the head and in the forward compartment. I ripped up the flooring and replaced it with sheets of teflon and carpeted the entire floor - it was a mess. Mine came from leak amidships last winter - water froze and pump could not pump out. It still leaks and am having it pulled this weekend to try to repair. If you want details on results, "steve@tainos.ai.

thanks for the info

Well, I'm going to pull up the flooring this weekend and check around the mast base. I'm worried that maybe a fitting or skylight could be letting that water in. Now that I really think about it, it seems to be soft at exactly the spot where the compression post meets the floor, between the head and the bilge compartment. Maybe I can identify the source and stop it before it gets worse. Thanks, Michael
