My Hunter 450 has Raymarine ST60 wind, speed, and depth instruments all mounted side by side above the companionway. On my last visit to the boat I noticed that the wind instrument was no longer working. The back light was working and I took out the unit and could not find any loose wires, also the mast mounted sensor seemed to be functioning normally. The time before at the boat just 4 days earlier it was working fine. I am hoping not to have to go up the mast.

Check the connection at the foot of the mast. That may be loose or corroded. If that's good then you're probably taking a trip up ;-)

raymarines web site has a guide for you to check the transducer wire voltage output. sorry i dont have the link but its easy to search. you will know then if your transducer is functioning properly

I also have a problem with my 11 year old ST-60. You can remove the wires from the back of the display unit and clean the contacts and that might help. My unit displays wind speed but not direction. I called Raymarine and the tech told me that the masthead units rarely fail and that I should replace the display unit. Maybe next year I can afford the $500 price tag. For now it's yarn on the shrouds.

As Marty says, I'd first suspect the first connector after the mast run. ... the one that has to be disconnected when the mast is removed. I am thinking TackTic to replace mine. My wire was somehow ( multitool operator, me) cut during the compression post repair and I don't want that wire in there anyway..

Looks like the display unit will be going in for service..I registered and checked on the Raymarine forums and I do have the proper voltages going into the unit.
In the mean time I get to hone my sailing skills using my windex and telltales.

Lots of Raymarine parts can be found on E-bay and some times even save $$$$.

I had the same symptom, Raymarine repairs/exchanges mast head unit for flat $185 fee. I can't believe your tech said masthead units rarely fail!
Repair center is in NH USA. My understanding is that the heading sensor is what commonly fails.
