I have a problem with the center board bracket on my 1999 Hunter 240. I just notice a piece of aluminum and plastic that is about 1' X 2" X 8" and has fallen or broken off the Center board bracket and is lodged between the centerboard and the centerboard housing and can be seen at the bottom of the boat. The aluminum portion of this piece is about 1/8" think and appears to have been welded to another part. I'd like to know what needs to be done to determine what's happened? Is there a way of inspecting the upper portion of the bracket to assess the problem? Nearest Hunter dealer is 4 hours away. A local boat repair facility believe they could repair it if they a schematic.

Can the centerboard bracket be replaced or does it have to be repaired?

Thanks for the help !

I know the bracket has replaceable support pads that keep the keel from flopping side to side when it's down. It sounds like one side has come off. The only way to replace it is to have someone hoist the boat off the trailer and drop the keel/bracket assembly and have it repaired. And of cource replace the keel line also, they take a beating. Crazy Dave Condon is the expert on these boats, hopefully he will chime in or you can search his profile here and send a pm.

Call the folks at this website. They have thousands of OEM replacement parts avaiable or can sometimes guide you to a source.

I suggest that everyone look at what Bly, Dave and Phil have done with the SBO store, especially for Hunter parts.

If the piece is a broken welded part falling off from the centerboard bracket, you will need to remove the centerboard and centerboard housing removing the centerboard bracket from the centerboard. Hopefully it is not broken but can be rewelded back onto the bracket. Please do this quickly and post a photo. Not sure if you can get the centerboard up, I would tend to suggest lifting up out of the water with a travel lift.

I lost my bracket and Board last summer. Crazy Dave supplied me the schematic and I had to have a bracket fabricated and new center board made this summer. Total coast parts and labor were over $3k. As Dave states , im sure you can repair/reweld your old bracket. Making a new Bracket cost me about $800. The part does not exist unless you can find a salvage boat.

LarryH;

Please provide those drawings I sent to you to Phil Herring so they can be archived on this site. Thank you and I am glad that worked for you.

I started this post about a month ago and since then we've dropped the centerboard and bracket - learned that the starboard side bracket plate broke off at the original weld about 2" from the bottom right and right at the top of the nylon pad. It appears that the weld corroded. Plan to post pictures soon. The pad on the port side was hanging on by one screw. I'm having a new bracket built and would appreciate having an engineering drawing of the bracket. Does anyone have one?
