Re: problem of fuel supply

Fabien,
First check that there is no airlock in the system. I don't know the Renault, but on my Yanmar I can use a lever under my mechanical fuel lift pump to push diesel to the injector pump with the bleed screw open. Sometimes it takes several minutes to get all the air out of the line. Once you are sure there is no air at the injection pump, loosen the fuel line connection at the injector and turn the engine over until you are sure there is no air coming through and then tighten the connection. Repeat for each injector, if more than one. Then try starting the engine. If it doesn't start, you may have a problem with injection pump or the injector itself. Either get a mechanic or take the pump and injector(s) off yourself and take them to a diesel injection repair specialist (check the Yellow Pages under "Engines-Diesel"). If you remove the injector pump yourself, be aware that it has to go back in exactly the same way and may have to be "timed", as it is syncronized to the camshaft. If you are not mechanical leave removing and reinstalling the pump to a pro. Bonne chance!

Fuel Injection Pump

Fabien,

Yes, a fuel injection pump can become blocked and rust would be a problem if there was water in the diesel fuel. Hopefully you have good filters before the pump. Injection pumps are not user serviceable - they should go to a specialist shop for repair. Take the injectors in at the same time for checking.

There should be some way to bleed air out of the fuel lines. You could even temporarily instal a rubber squeeze ball from an gas outboard fuel tank to pump the diesel from your fuel tank to the injection pump, which should have a bled screw you can open. If no fuel comes out, then you definitely have a problem.

Also search the archives on this website for other threads on the Renault RC8D. And maybe someone on this site can recommend a good mechanic in your area.
