Hello fellow Hunter owners. I have a 2001 410 that is factory equipped with a Northern Lights generator. It is installed in a sound box in the starboard locker off of the swim platform. I've only had the boat for a couple of seasons and have not yet changed the fuel filters. I see the secondary filter on the generator but cannot find the primary. There is a fuel shut off valve under the bottom of the port side lazarette that is accessible through a removable hatch but the fuel line is very difficult to view from that hatch to the generator itself. It is under the cockpit floor and runs behind the AC unit that is installed next to the generator. Can anyone offer some insight as to where the primary fuel filter is located or, if there is a primary filter even factory installed with those generators?

Not that this answers you question but are you sure it was installed at the factory? These are usually installed by the yard which commissioned the boat. If you know where/who that was, that may be a better source of info.

Also, I can't attest to every generator install but our's has only one filter at the engine. No "primary".

I did not want the dealer to install myGen and had the Hunter factory install my Gen
and no filter on the Gen but do have a Raco filter right next to my Yanmar filter.

Hello Don. You are correct, I have assumed that it was factory installed but it may have been done at commissioning. I do know that it has been with the boat since it was launched. It was rebuilt years ago owing largely to it not being used and broken in correctly. I may be able to find out where she was commissioned, but I'm comforted by the fact that your boat does not have a primary either. I was hoping to hear that it was not unusual for that to be the case. Thanks.

If I understand what you're saying Seadaddler, you only have what is essentially a 'primary' on your gen? There is not a separate fuel filter installed right on the generator engine downstream of the manual lift pump? I'm a neophyte diesel owner and am not aware of the various possibilities but I had assumed that the generator manufacturer would have included a secondary right on the motor. I am encouraged that you and Don do not have two filters, it may be a fairly common set-up.

Both the Yanmar (main) and Onan (Genset) on our boat have engine mounted fuel filters as well as each with a dedicated Racor ten micron filter between the fuel tank and engine.

Not sure how helpful this will be, but we have the 41DS and the Generator primary fuel filter / water separator on ours is mounted on the inside forward wall of the port side lazarette, just forward of where the generator is.
