Hello there, I would like to shed some light on the secretive world of Used boat pricing. My question to you all is this. When purchasing you used Beneteau model, in general what was the difference between the Asking Price and what you Paid? You can relate this in percentage difference. I would like to know what the average works out to be. Cheers, D.B.

I was patient

Late this spring, I started looking at Beneteaus of the type I wanted (F235) that were on the market. I saw a total of 5 boats over a 2-month period. I offered about 20% less than the asking price on the first one I saw (I was only half-interested in that one as it was a bit rough). Finally, when I saw the fifth one, I knew that it was worth the asking price, the asking price was under my budgeted max, and I was getting tired of looking. The next day, I phoned the owner and agreed to pay the asking price.

You may get what you ask for

I recently purchased a used Beneteau. I searched several months and spent several thousand dollars on full spec surveys. The asking a purchase price is dependent on many things. Time of year, how urgent the seller needs to sell the boat and how long has the boat been idle. I'd say as much as 20-25% of the asking is usually acquired. In my case it was more as the owner needed to sell the boat. If you are patient and shop with a good broker you will find the boat and the deal you will be satisfied. Patience is the key and go all out for the survey once you find the boat you want to buy. It may run you 1500 dollars but, it gives you a good picture of what your getting and it's a great bargaining tool.
