I would like to know what is the market price low and high end that I should be expected to pay for an Oday 37 in good condition and well equipped. Prices seem to be all over the place on web adds and at dealerships, but there must be a sweet spot pricing for these boats, no matter how well it is equipped or restored. Your comments will be appreciated please post and email to erict@cacao-design.com Thanks

Pricing

Hello Eric (ou bonjour), The price for the O'Day should be in the mid 30K to high 40K for a well equipped boat with fairly new equipment. Do not touch a boat below this amount for it may have serious hidden flaws. I almost got caught in Annapolis with a boat that was fire damaged and blistered selling for mid 20K. Things to look for on first visit: If boat is out of water, blisters, cracks, damage to keel or rudder. Play in cutlass bearing and rudder stock. Blistering or bubbles in deck. Soft or squishy deck. Age of sails and condition. Roller fuller age and setup. Motor, age and upkeep. Look at the maintenance log not what the owner says. A good diesel will last in the 100,000 hours if well maintained. Mine has 5700 hours and it is still perfect. The worst will be to replace a worn-out heat exchanger (700$ sherwood at Torrensen.com). upkeep on inside and teak. Look at the bilge, that will tell you a lot. For equipment, don't get all chocked up and emotional about it because in most cases, if the boat has been on the ocean, the stuff older than 5 years will probably need replacing soon. Watermaker, genset, refer unit, electric windlass, etc...... After this personal inspection , if you still like the boat, get a surveyor that is reputable and part of one of the well-known american associations. Check his or her credentials and if he or she has surveyed O'Day's before. Be prepared to take some of the comments seriously (structural flaws) and some more littly (like Oh, the Halberg-Rassy that I just surveyed was much nicer than this 20 year old boat ;-)) ). Anyway, you get the idea. I looked for two years for mine and I am bringing her home soon, very close to you at Monty's Bay. Good Luck!

Merci

I took French in grade school but "Merci" is about as far as it gets now.

That's a great start!

;-) Hey Peter, I am sure that you know more than that... How about the words to that famous song that most men have tried on women over the years... Voulez-vous coucher avec moi, ce soir? It worked for me when I met my future wife ;-))

At the very least

in those circumstances, would one not use the familiar "tu?" I never had to ask. ;)

Sorry all, my appologies....

Sorry all, I rarely run across my french Quebec compatriots on forums, I rarely reply in french. The gist of all of those french words was that I was simply asking if I could visit Francois' boat once he gets it on lake champlain. :) Later.
