Pricing
Hello Eric (ou bonjour),The price for the O'Day should be in the mid 30K to high 40K for a well equipped boat with fairly new equipment. Do not touch a boat below this amount for it may have serious hidden flaws. I almost got caught in Annapolis with a boat that was fire damaged and blistered selling for mid 20K. Things to look for on first visit:If boat is out of water, blisters, cracks, damage to keel or rudder. Play in cutlass bearing and rudder stock.Blistering or bubbles in deck. Soft or squishy deck.Age of sails and condition.Roller fuller age and setup.Motor, age and upkeep. Look at the maintenance log not what the owner says. A good diesel will last in the 100,000 hours if well maintained. Mine has 5700 hours and it is still perfect. The worst will be to replace a worn-out heat exchanger (700$ sherwood at Torrensen.com).upkeep on inside and teak.Look at the bilge, that will tell you a lot.For equipment, don't get all chocked up and emotional about it because in most cases, if the boat has been on the ocean, the stuff older than 5 years will probably need replacing soon. Watermaker, genset, refer unit, electric windlass, etc......After this personal inspection , if you still like the boat, get a surveyor that is reputable and part of one of the well-known american associations. Check his or her credentials and if he or she has surveyed O'Day's before. Be prepared to take some of the comments seriously (structural flaws) and some more littly (like Oh, the Halberg-Rassy that I just surveyed was much nicer than this 20 year old boat ;-)) ). Anyway, you get the idea. I looked for two years for mine and I am bringing her home soon, very close to you at Monty's Bay.Good Luck!
