I'm sure this topic has been discussed in the past. Just to make sure I'm looking at current info I would like to ask the question again. I'm getting ready to refresh the running rigging and would like some input on rope clutch's.

Thanks

Tom

Garhauer makes excellent replacement clutches for the Cat 30 and I'm sure other boats as well. I replaced mine this summer and am really pleased. They have the same footprint as the old ones so installation's a snap. I used butyl tape to bed. I was mad when the old one broke (handle) but I'm so glad it did. It gave me the opportunity to see how far things have come in the last 30 years! They can be had at Catalina Direct.

Can also buy from Garhauer directly. Very nice people they are.

I added a Garhauer double rope clutch to compliment the original catalina clutches. It works well except the only thing I don't like is that a line can get under the handle and lift it releasing the clutch. The original clutches didn't allow this due to the handle extending all the way to the end of the clutch (no gaps).

Good point. Thanks

Thanks for the heads-up.

Does anybody have any experience with the Lewmar D series clutches. I like the idea that the design doesn't use a cam with teeth that could fray the line if it slips.
