Greetings all. I am a new member here and a rookie sailor. My wife and I had sailing on our bucket list for years, just finished lessons and are practising and learning on our first boat; an unplanned "fender overboard " drill today was a good lesson!.
We bought a 1986 Precision 18. Although the boat is rough, I think she is a good "fixer -upper". One of many things on my list: Does anyone know where or how I could find a 2-3 gallon gas can that would fit under the port side hatch lid in the cockpit? The generic (West marine I think) can has a tall fill cap that won`t allow the lid top to close down. I`ve been to the Precison website (A long shopping list there), no gas cans.
Thanks for any info. David

How much height can you accept?

How much height can you accept? A 3 gallon Nissan tank is 9" high.

Here is a link with full dimensions for the tank: http://www.nissanoutboardparts.com/Fuel-Tanks-and-Lines.html#

I don't know how hard it is to adapt to other motors, newer Tohatsu and Mercury are the same basic motor, but I do not know about the fuel connectors. Part of the issue may be what motor you have and how to get the right fittings once you find a tank that fits. The site linked also shows some options for the fittings.

Thanks for the link. I`ll be crawling under the tarp and measuring up the hatch space some time this week.I have a 4HP 2 stroke Yamaha but was thinking in terms of a generic fuel tank, hadn`t thought about a brand name or motor manufactorer tank. I`ll check this out.
