Amir, some engine manufacturers build "glow plugs" to help with the starting process in cold temperatures. Yanmar does not.You can try aiming a hair dryer into the air intake for a few seconds prior to, and during starting. I've found that helps a lot.
Yanmar doesn't have the pre-heat capability of glo-plugs because Yanmars depend on high compression to start them up. Glo-plugs preheat the fuel in the cylinders prior to ignition, whereas, Yanmar uses high compression to ignite the fuel.
works better if you heat the air intake rather than the engine block or oil. To raise the temperature of the engine mass you would need to heat it for a long time. Aim the hairdryer in the air intake while you crank the engine. If the engine inhales hot air when cranking it will start much easier. This is the system used on the newer diesel engines in pickup trucks. My cummins diesel Dodge has a intake air preheater, started last year at -25F same as it starts in the summer. You definately need to let it warm up longer though.
12 volt heater that fits into the air cleaner. Seems to me I was quoted $300.00. The hairdryer, even run off an inverter, seems to be more cost effective.
