Power hungry fridge/freezer

Our Seafrost fridge freezer is extremely power hungry for my liking - approx. 72 amp hours per day. The problem is that there is no control left on the control knob - 7 points & we are set at less than one & freezing the back of lettuce in the fridge. Our freezer is like a deep freeze. The dealer has checked it out to no avail. I took apart the thermostat unit because there is supposed to be a calibration/adjustment screw but found none. Any thoughts???????????? Cheers, Don.

Friggin Fridges

Don, I always had trouble with the various fridges I have had over the years until I got this little Novacool. If I keep it on setting #2 of 10 settings it does not freeze everything up. It is an efficient little machine and I would hate to see the results if I put it on settings #7-8. I would need a jackhammer. I added a huge amount of foam insulation into the fridge cavity and put a better gasket on the lid. I do not put vegetables deep into the thing, always near the top. As to power, my Link 10 tells me it uses about 4 amps each time it cycles on which is not for long and once-twice an hour. My two 125 watt solar panels take care of that usage. So I do not worry about the power used. Like that cold beer though.... Peter

Check the gasket

Don, check the gasket by slipping a dollar bill between the door and pull it out. If you have to tug on it a bit the gasket is okay. Also it could be the thermostat has gone bad. Good luck Charlie

Think Thermostat may be faulty

Just tested fridge freezer on our new 373with the Link seems to draw about 6 amps when running - doesn't seem to cycle off too often though!

Bad thermo

76 Amp/Hours a day would be approx. a 3 amp/hour rating. Check your manual to get the manufacturers rating for the frige. Depending on the temp, it should cycle on/off and draw considerably less than the contiuous rating. Sound like the thermo must be broke, set to the wrong setting, or has been replaced with a wrong thermostat. A 3 amp/hour rating is pretty low for a refrig/freezer. I have a just small frig. which is rated at 5 amp/hours, running 25% of the time would be 30 amps/day. Sail on... Terry
