Power boats vs. Sail Boats

Just a couple of my thoughts on this subject. My wife and I bought our first boat (Hunter 285) which we keep at the top of the bay. From Havre de Grace (for those who haven't been there) you have to run down a narrow channel to the bay proper. Around "Battery Island" we noticed this weekend past how dangerously fast some of the power boat run the channel. Their having fun and that's OK I guess in "wider" waters but in a narrow channel one mistake and, well...I don't even want to think about having a big power boat ending up in the cockpit! There are no speed restrictions but it seems to me that common sense is in short supply among the "PB" crowd, as we've call them. Can't yell to slow down because they can't here us and each other, one the same boat, I'm sure. I just hope, as another sailor told us one time, "I sure hope they can see these big white triangles hanging from these tall poles".

And then there are

sailboats who insist on remaining under sail and tacking back and forth in front of whomever and whatever in narrow congested channels. Not of lot of common sense OR courtesy there... Every group has its share idiots.
