Letters page, YACHTING magazine, June 1991:
GOOSENECK GIANTS
Often one hears complaints of equipment shortcomings and poor service from boatbuilders. I have just had a contrary experience which is worth sharing.
I own a 37½' Alden Challenger sloop built by Poul Molich of Denmark in 1964. On our final sail of the season last fall the heavy gooseneck fitting failed completly after 26 years of service. I wrote a letter to John Alden. They replied immediately, suggesting I write Poul Molich, which I did.
Three weeks later I received a rather heavy packet in the mail from the firm of Hundested Baadbyggeri enclosing a fitting and a letter which read "Enclosed is a gooseneck fitting, free of charge because of our world-wide everlasting guarantee."
Now there are firms worth patronizing!
