What the heck is "Pot Life" that paint mfgrs. talk about? I am about to use VC Tar and VC 17 for a bottom job. Is pot life how long the product will last in the can after it is mixed, or does it have something to do with spraying equipment? If I sound ignorant about this subject it's because I am. Any intelligent input will be appreciated. THANKS !!!!!

You guessed it...

How long the product can be stored after you've mixed it. Kinda like "shelf life," but applies to products that are mixed together.

pot life

if you are going to use vc-17 br quick! and use it in short amounts as the thinner for it has a short flash life (ie. quick evaporation) we have used it on a frers 41 and were shocked at first when we started rolling and found out the potlife was measured in minutes! great smooth finish though!

mffg'rs gaurentee date, but it's still good @1/2 p

I was a designer for grumman aircraft co. the out dated imron glossy light grey, with an expired pot life was used on the floors in the w'houses, with trucks, and fork lifts, scraping skids, those floors lookwd great for many years and any one could have rec'd all the white and grey imron for free, shelf life expectancy "pot life" is their safe guard for their gaurentee, the paint is still good as long as it's sealed, two parts kept apart, and the price you can't beat.
