I am having trouble getting my C22 wing keel centered and far enough forward to sit properly on trailer. Boat seems to want to float side ways and I have to back trailer into water numerous times to get it right. Has anyone tried adjustable boat guides to center trailer??

loading boat

Hello, I used to have the same problem as you. The board for my keel is about 6" wide with 2 X 4 on either side to make sure the keel is centered. My problem was I would miss the bottom board and have the keel outside the keel support area. I solved the problem my learning just how far to back the trailer into the water. When the trailer is the right distance back, the boat will float into the trailer about 3/4 of way forward, then the keel will hit the board on the bottom and the boat won't move left or right. So I line it up, pull it forward until it stops, just using my eyes to see that it is centered. Then I use the winch on the trailer to pull it all the way forward. I haven't had any problems sinced I perfected my technique. I used to back the trailer in deeper, but then the boat could float left or right and the keel would not stay centered. Good luck, Barry

same problem

I used to have the same problem. As posted, the trick is knowing how far to back the trailer into the water. For me, I leave about a foot of the front bunk boards sticking out of the water. The boat automatically centers itself when I wind in the winch.

I fabricated guide posts on Trailer

I also removed the old guide for the bow and fabricated a roller bracket out of 6" channel steel. Installed a roller on it from Boaters World. The 1 1/2 PVC guides are secured to the fender brackets at a slight angle and will bend out to allow for great center width. Mine extend to just above rub rail and work fine. Email me at 22Nauti@cox.net and I'll send you a picture or 3. I have a swing keel which may make a difference.

Trailer guide post picture

Thanks 22 Nauti for the tip about putting boat on trailer. I have a bow roller as well and it does help. Since I asked this question on the forum I discovered part of the problem. Someone had moved the trailer "Y" receiver for bow further aft which prevented boat from getting forward to proper position on trailer.I would be happy to receive picture you offered of guide posts. Thanks, Diego...my email address is: 326scott@frontiernet.net
