You'll find that the small wheel diameter means that the ride on that bike will be pretty harsh...as will the short wheelbase.

You'd be much better off getting a folding bike with a larger wheel. The Dahon brand has been pretty good for a lot of cruisers I know. Takes up more space but is much more usable... no sense in packing something you can't use.

That thing looks dangerous. The first pothole you hit and you will be laid flat on your face. It only has 1 gear and prices out at $800. I wonder if they come with a free clown.

I have been mountain biking since the sport was invented. I want a bike that rides like a real bike so am considering some Montagues. They are less expensive and have real bike components that can be supported anywhere in the world.

I realize they were trying to keep the bike as compact as possible. They really could stretch the design out, enlarge the tires and make it a little more streetable. I didn't notice they were $800.:doh:I have seen folding bikes that were similar wheelbases and tires, but the Dahon is still my favorite, even though I have no need for a folder.

I hadn't heard of the Montagues...they look like a good choice... pretty comparable to the Dahons, in that they're using OTS standard bicycle parts for the most part.

My Father in law is also a biker and he has a set of these he keeps on his plane. He has owned them for quite a few years and loves them.

The others are correct, a good folding bike is your best bet. But the fact that you saw the bike and took the time to share the information is appreciated.

Strida is actually a pretty. . . .

good folder. Definitely overpriced, especially for a single-speed. But I have sat on one in the store and it is very solid. It has a belt drive so no need for any greasy chain or lube on the boat. For that mile or two between the boat and the store it would be fine. But not at that price.

Any bike you choose should be all alloy, no steel anywhere. That is the $100. difference between the two West Marine offerings. Even the aluminum alloys will corrode but steel will be rust in less than a year.

I wish my good road bikes folded up, be great for getting some exercise while seeing the countryside. Having raced for many years it is hard to just putter around on a little folder. And no, I do not do mud. I am old but once a roadie always a roadie.

Only this week a UK TV program tested the Strida against the Brompton.
Tester was a UK Olympic Gold medal winner.
Verdict - Strida has a very uncomfortable ride and may be dangerous.
Against that I know two people who have them on board and love them.
BTW The design was the result of a design class 'inventing' a new type of bike - not for me though.

We are very happy with our two Dahon folders. Be sure to get the bags with them, since they really make stowing them easy.
