I'm in the midst of planning an upgrade of my chartplotter from a Raymarine E80 to a Raymarine Axiom+ 12". I've posed questions to the Raymarine tech staff about compatibility with various other instruments that are currently installed on our 2007 H41AC. In one exchange, I asked if the RayStar 125 GPS would need to be disconnected since the Axiom+ has GPS built in. The answer was that the RS125 could coexist with the built-in GPS but that it is likely that the built-in GPS would be more accurate. Later, the tech said that I might want to disconnect the RS125 or replace it with a newer model because of a "GPS rollover event" that will occur next year.
I did some research and found that there was a GPS week number rollover event in 2019 and there will be another one in 2038 (both due to using a 10-bit value for the week number) so I asked for more information about an event that would occur in 2023. The reply was that there was an internal tech bulletin that discussed a rollover event in 2022 that affects the RS125 and further asked if the date and time are being reported correctly.
I don't recall seeing any issue with the date and time and I haven't been to the boat since receiving the most recent reply. I plan to look into that the next time I'm aboard. Has anyone with an RS125 (not RS125 Plus) seen any evidence of such a problem? I suppose that it could also occur with other older GPS units, too. The instruments on our boat were probably installed when our boat was new in 2007.
