We have a depth sounder transducer installed all the way in the stern next to the gas tank.. Is that a standard location for Cat 30 (ours is 1985 tall rig)? Cannot imagine that someone would want to know the depth 25ft behind the bow, and after the keel..? Am I just over-thinking it?

Also, I am trying to figure out how I get fresh water in the bilge after a rain? I do not see any water leaks, stains or wet spots around... are there magic place(s) on Cat 30 that is/are prone to leaking?

Thanks!

Once you're in water that's shallow enough that you're concerned between the difference in depth between the front and back of the boat, it's time to be peering over the edge and getting the hell out of there.

So no, I wouldn't go changing the location at this time. If you were installing a depth sounder for the first time in the boat, then locate it up near the front of the keel.

The rainwater comes in from the top of your mast (if you have a keel stepped mast). If not, is it salt or fresh water if you're in salt water. Have you checked your stuffing box?

Ehh, was coming up the river at St Mary's Georgia and fellow Called me on the VHF and said I was on the wrong side of the bar to get to the anchorage. Had to jog back down river looking for an opening, glad the sounder was in front of the keel.
