Hey all
I am the owner of a 1984 31 -
Does any one have knowledge as to where to position the cars
on the sail track. I am thinking a foot aft the chainplate/standing
rigging based on articles on the web.
Thanks
Mark

Do you have telltales on the luff of your jib? If not, you should install them.

The position of the cars can vary on any given sail, due to wind strength. The cars, theoretically, should be moved to induce equal telltale streaming.

Concur with Stu,

If you typically sail and are in no hurry and dont want to adjust them, go mid rail. If you do care about speed and sail trim, grab Don Gulliette's sail trim guide http://shop.hunterowners.com/prod.php?51999/Sail Trim Chart and Sail Trim Guide

I will admit, typically a Hunter's jib tracks are grossly designed for day sailors, but it can make a difference of a knot or two and that means passing an adversary who happens to be close and on the same tack!

As Captain Jack Aubrey said to a young Lord after being asked about Lord Nelson and what kind of man he is.... "You should read the book"

Good luck

Oh, another thing, if you don't have telltales. If the head of the sail flaps, move the cars forward. And conversely...
