Position of cam for jib furler

Hi. This is an image of the roller furler cam cleat on a B321 Oceanis1999. It is mounted on the metal of the toe rail and now one of the screws going thru the metal and deck has torn off. Just adjacent is a small rubber gasket the same size as the one beneath the cam which tore off. Would that have been the original position? It seemed to me that right now the cam has been mounted in the wrong position. My question is whether I should remount it where it is now or in what I think was the original position.
Thank you.

Leave it on the toe rail, less chance of stubbing a toe on it. The toe rail is stronger than the deck surface anyway. The angle between the sheave and the clam cleat looks to be extreme though. Seems like a 45 degree turn would work better tha a straight up pull.

My h30 has the same kind of slotted toerail. I attached a block to the rail with a shackle. When I furl or reef the genny I tie the line to a cleat knowing that it is secure. Only one moving part and I can easily relocate or replace the block, if necessary.

I doubt its original, Beni very rarely (if ever) uses screws on its boats. Most original solutions have that block mounted to the pulpit rail.

Thanks for the replies.
I guess they mounted on the rail due to risk of tearing on the deck. The part is salvageable so I would need to decide on whether to fill the holes w 5200 and redrill- or attach to the toerail with a shackle.
Seems the Harkens are expensive.
The Garhauer marine looks similar so it may work.
I believe the line is 5/16".Any suggestions on the size or weight limit?

Again thanks , this forum is always very helpful.

I am not sure that is a true statement. The 323 that I have owned since new has a Harken cam cleat/ block mounted to the toe rail.. It is set up so that I can furl with one hand while belaying the jib sheet with the other. I cannot recall ever having to use a winch to furl the jib.
I don't have a dedicated cleat for the furling line. I let the jib sheets wrap around the sail a couple of turns. then secure with a bunji.

I don't either. I don't know your layout but, I use the jib sheet cleat to tie off my furling line.

Mine on the B310 is set up similarly with a head knocker like that and the same pad on the deck to keep it from scaring the deck. But I think it's bolted through the vertical part of the toe rail and is located back behind where the stern rail mounts to the deck so it's out of the way. I assume it is OEM but can't know for sure.

Replaced the cam w the Garhuer cam, mounted to the toe rail. Excellent price, nice people on the phone, quick shipping. Runs very smooth.
Thanks
