A couple of years ago in one of the forums someone gave a source (other than Pompanette) for the Gray molded portlights used on the H37C. I need to replace a couple more and would like to find some at less than Pompanette's prices. Can anyone help?

New Found Metals

A Hunter owner a few slips down just installed portlights from New Found Metals. He got them at "boatshow" prices. The prices were the same as the plastic port lights that I bought from Sailnet. Check New Found Metals web site. The portlights are thru-bolted and have a gasket seal, so you save on sealant cost.

be careful with thru-bolts

I didn't have to deal with thru-bolts when I replaced my ports, but the headliner and the cabin trunk on the 37-c are not perfectly parallel. Ask Ed S. about the headaches of making little shims to account for the variance.

New Found Metals nice, not cheap

I installed the Trimetrix (sp) think they were somewhere in the $140-180 range. They tru bolt dry without caulking. I free handed all the drilling of the bolt holes. Did 4 portlights. Install of the first took 4 hours and the last one an hour. NFM rents a drilling template which I would now recomend. I used my old trim ring as template stock. The replacement portlights were a perfect fit in the old cut outs. Pic of old and new

Stay with originals Chuck.

Unless you expect to make a southern ocean crossing(or have money to burn) I would stick with the orignal mgf. Chuck. None of the metal ones are perfect fits and are very expensive. They look great and are very secure because they are safety glass instead of lexan. They will oulast the boat but then the originals were fine for over twenty years. Thrifty Mariner is indeed out of business. Sailnet and Performance Yacht are two chandleries that I frequent. But only if E-Bay doesn't have it.

Portlights

Chuck even pompanette will tell you that you can buy thier products cheaper elsewhere. They have a seconds and closeout page, but its rarely updates. They had 5 of the original ports for a 1976 30' on thier page, but when I called they were out of stock. Does anyone know anything about ABI from San francisco, they make ports?

I ordered mine via West Marine

When I repalaced my port lenses I called Gray and they said that they were sold via West Marine cheaper than they could sell them directly. I went to the local store and they ordered them and I had them in about two weeks. The second time I used JSI out of Flordia. Same results.
