I started to remove the portlights today and found the task a little more daunting than I thought. After removing all the screws securing a metal piece of trim to the inside frame of the portlight along with a piece of weather stripping that fit inside a track around the inner frame, I was greeted with a black rubbery like stuff all around the outside of the inner frame. I was able to peel most of it off in strips. I tried to push the frame to see if it would move out but it did not. The window pane is glass. On the outside there is also a metal trim that I was able to pry away from the hull but it does not want to come loose from the window pane. I cannot figure out what to do next. Any help would be appreciated.

been there done that...

I replaced the windows on my Mac-22 last year....it was not pretty...people warned me that it looks easier than it is-so true that was.especially in older models with metal trim around(like yours and mine). The outer metal trim is a channer type aluminum. I also had some black goo there(must be a stock sealant of some sort)You have to try to get as much of that sealant(and whatever previous owners put around and under that outer rim). The window assembly was sort of wedged into the window hole, so you need to be able to move the frame inside that hole farly freely, from the inside, by pushung up on the frame, expose the lower fiberglass edge and skrape all the goo off, then push down and do the same with upper edge. After that, either upper or lower part od the window will pop out. Come around the outside and pull in a slightly diagonal direction. It will pop out. Getting it to move free inside a hole is a key!...and elbow grease!!! I posted a link to a good cheap site to get plexiglass from about 2 weeks ago...look it up. Good luck Alex

got one off

I was able to push out the entire window after removing enough of the black rubbery stuff. The top and bottom halves were held together with a small plate and screws which did not want to loosen so I had to take the frame as one piece. I have been using needle nose pliers and a small putty knife to remove the "black goo"; any other suggested removal methods? It is slow going.
