Does anybody know what sealant was originally used for the Deadlights (side windows) on a 1978 Oday 22? The original sealant is still gooey and fresh after 33 years, washes off easily with mineral spirits, white in color, very sticky. It's some kind of bedding COMPOUND, not sealer. Ports are original white plastic frames.

Most likely butyl tape if it cleans up with mineral spirits and is still gooey and fresh at 33 years. There are really only two types of sealants that should be used on acrylic dead lights, a silicone like Dow Corning 795 or butyl tape.. Polysulfide and polyurethane products can leech the plasticizers out of the plastic and cause it to to fail early. While a structural silicone would be my choice for dead lights if the butyl worked well for 33 years it's probably fine to re-use it...
The portlights assemblys are Bomar as far as I can gather. They have lexan windows encased in a plastic frame with an inside moulding which draws the portlight tight sagainst the cabin side.
