I have a port-a-bote for about 2 years. Why don't more boats use them. Great boat!

I think I know.

A friend of mine had a port-a-bote, Great little craft! I'm currently thinking about my own dingy situation. I think the port-a-bote would be the perfect solution! The only thing standing in my way is the $1000+ price tag.

Try ebay

Portabotes are listed on ebay all the time. Sometimes you can even get them with an outboard. They seem to sell for about $600 there. Mark

Portabote question

Since we are talking about portabotes, why do some of them have wide transoms like a rowboat and others have very narrow sterns? Mark

Old vs. new.

The older Porta-Botes had canoe bows and sterns. The newer (not sure when they made the switch) have a flat stern that can more easily accommodate an engine. BTW, I like my 10'6" Porta-Bote. It's easy to put together and take apart, it's virtually indistructable, can fit three adults, can easily be rowed, planes easily with my 4HP engine (even when loaded down), and stores nicely on deck strapped to the life lines. ~ Happy trails and sails to you ~ _/) ~
