small power

I've been thinking of possibly hooking up a computer UPS to a couple 12v deep cycle batteries as a test to see how good it realy works long term, used them for short term emergencies and they were great. I think that for the little stuff I use that is AC, it wouldn't be worthwhile buying a dedicated inverter to run the 'house', but a UPS is able to run small stuff easily. Most of the ones I've had used 4 6v batteries in series parrellel, (12v) so I'm thinkling of going with a couple of 12v batts in parrellel for a longer run time. picked up one with dead batteries at a yard sale for $5. but someone tossed it before I got a chance to experiment. ken.
