Port Vents

I have 2 stern vents on the port side, the aft vent is open to the aft, and there is about 4 feet of flexible tubing attached to it underneath (where my gas tank is). The forward vent faces forward and has nothing attached to it, but the line from the gas tank runs out it and to the outboard. I want to tidy things up and move the flexible tubing and attach it to the forward vent, and run the gas line up and out the aft vent. Is it ok to do this, since it will change the airflow down below? Obviously the way it is set-up now, the forward vent is for fresh air intake, and the aft for outake. Will I trap more fumes from the gas tank if I change things around? Is this an unwise and dangerous consideration?

Lines to OB

My 1975 C-22 came to me after 2 previous owners, with the electric charging wires and the gas line leading into the cockpit way aft just below the seat thru a grometed hole, perhaps which a previous owner had cut. Makes nice setup to keep wires/hose out of the way. Because of my conern about carrying gas below with me sometimes, I long ago placed the gas tank aft in the cockpit under the tiller so that the hose goes simply over the transom to the motor. The tank hardly ever gets in the way as long as I'm neat in placement of sheets after/before tacks/jibes.

Gas fumes are heavier than air

The hose you descibe should be low so the incoming air will be introduced above the fumes, thus "forcing" out the heavier fumes as you travel. I would leave it but you could run your hose up, and through, the stern vent.

on my 74 c-22 that i just bought ...

the forward vent has a long tube the goes almost into the cabin and the aft vent has a tube the is only like three feet long. which would put it near the gas tank(if i had one)for venting... remember I bought the boat like this so I'm only assuming thats the way it was from the factory...???

Definitely do it

Several of us C-22 people already lead the gas line out through that aft facing scoop. I even send my alternator wire throught it.Sending the fuel line through the forward scoop is unwise because it will chafe against the side of the scoop.Place the longer dyer vent tube onto the forward scoop.Just be reasonably meticulous in cleaning up any fuel spills when you fill the tank.
