Tim, I learn something new
every day. When I decided I wanted to buy an O'Day 23, I looked at about five boats before I found the one I bought. One was an early seventies pop top, and the others were all late seventies non-pop tops. The pop-top was a completely different boat below and above decks (although the hull shape looked identical to the newer boats), but the newer non pops were all pretty much the same. The color of the cabin liners differed, the sink/head arrangements varied slightly, some had deck anchor lockers and some didn't, some had painted spars, some plain anodized, but they all had a pull out double berth for the port sette. Given the variations I saw, I guess its not surprising that O'Day (or Bangor Punta or whoever) decided to forgo that feature on some boats. Incidentally, my boat came with some promotional brochures for the O'Day line of trailerable cruisers, and it indicates that the double berth was standard at the time.
