Port or starboard motor location/support?

I currently have a 1984 Hunter 25.5 with an outboard on the port side. I'm going to be replacing my existing motor mount with a heavier 4 stroke model this spring and was considering relocating it to the starboard side. Is there any reason I SHOULD NOT conider doing this? Does anyone know if there is any special backing or support plate BETWEEN the inner/outer transom walls on this model that might not be on the starboard side? Addition info: The port mounted motor 'manually' controlled worked fine for me as I'm right handed. But I'm also going to be adding a remote control for shifting gears and throttle this spring as well. Moving the motor to starboard will help as I'll locate the control on the starboard stern rail (use right hand to operate) and hold tiller with left hand. Other conbinations I simulated just felt unnatural. Thanks for all your input. Bob

Water Tank

The only thing I can think of is the Water tank is on the starboard side. With the tank full and the motor on the same side it might cause the boat to list to the starboard side.

That's the reason

20 gallons of water easily offsets the OB. Just put a reinforcement plate inside the boat, like you suggested.

Starboard list

Don't know about other 25.5s, but mine has a little bit of a starboard list. Without water in the storage tank. It needs weight to port.
