Any one a member and keep their sailboat at the Charlotte Yacht Club,Florida.
Just wondering what it's like keeping a sailboat there, seems like it can get pretty
shallow, did see some large sailboats in the slips today.
We were invited for brunch and a ride on a nice power boat,it is a beautiful Yacht Cub all redone in and out,the food and service was great and the people were really nice too.

I'll be curious to hear some answers also. Have been looking at property in that area. Maybe a winter getaway spot or some investment opportunities.

How's the racing in the area???

I am new to the area and only just got started sailing in Charlotte Harbor,I am not a racer but from what I have seen so far there is a lot of sailing going on in the Harbor with plenty of sailboats, also have just seen a pretty big race going this Saturday and Sunday in Charlotte Harbor.
The Punta Gorda sailboat Club seems to be very active here.

Punta Gorda on Charlotte Harbor Florida

First, check out the boating community of the City of Punta Gorda, Florida website. That's where I live. We live in a canal community called Punta Gorda Isles. There are hundreds of boats of all types tied up behind our houses. My Hunter 340 draws 4.5 feet. To get out we have to stay aware of the tides, but doesn't everybody? Bottom line, we can get out most days and the worst that can happen is that we have to drop anchor for the night or come into a marina of which there are two prize winners on Charlotte Harbor. Most sailing on the harbor is just getting out and sailing around - "day sailing". You cannot run aground anywhere on Charlotte Harbor unless you like to sail right up to the shoreline and ignore your depth sounder. But we can sail to Boca Grande channel where we can go out to the Gulf - then north or south or stay inside in the ICW and go north or south were there are plenty of Marinas or Anchorages. There is a reason why we live among hundreds of boats. It's simply the best and most affordable place in Florida. June, July and Auugust would not be your choice months. Hot, little wind, and scary lightening storms. [changing subject, I've researched and cannot find there has ever been a lightening fatality on a metal masted sailboat - unless it scares you to death] Anybody know of one?

Google "Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club"

Google "Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club" in Port Charlotte across the river from Punta Gorda.

As well as "Isles Yacht Club" - in Punta Gorda

Both of them will respond:

I don't know if they accept transients. The may, with other yacht club membership.

I have never heard of Charlotte Yacht Club - but you could try Google it also.

I have a friend here in Port Charlotte that we went with to the Yacht club last sunday and check it all out, very nice place and he wants me to join and keep my boat their closer to home.
But I told him I like where we are now at Burnt store and a Charlotte Harbor Yacht club member told me he has trouble getting in and out and he does get stuck many times so I'll stay where I am for now.

Good move! I suspect your draft is 5 feet. We keep a shortcut to WX Tide software on our computer full time. We draw 4.5 feet and have to watch the tide for all planned trips. If you have the credentials you might be able to get in to the Isles Yacht Club - but again, check the depth. You could motor in there some time and check out the depth (as long as you know the predicted tide and there is no wind causing a predicted tide error.
