Pop top

My 1980 catalina22 did not come with a poptop. It has a sliding hatch. I have been given a pop top. Will it fit my boat with out cutting the hatch any larger? Will the pop top supports just bolt to the rim of the the hatch opening? Has anyone ever done this before.I could use some guidance.thanks chip

Hang that pop-top over the mantlepiece for when the conversation gets dull. I had my Catalina 22 for over 9 years, and only raised it once........The first day I got the boat. I guess I was inquisitive, but it's not worth foolin' with.

Boy, do I disagree.

On the Cat 22, the pop top is the greatest thing since sliced bread.....assuming that you want to spend any amount of time below decks. And, if you don't.....get a day sailer.I'm not sure what it is that you actually have Chip, but what I visualize can't possibly work. The pop top is much larger than the sliding hatch. and it has four tubular legs that are hinged to allow it to stand up. I've never really seen a Cat 22 w/o the poptop. Unless the cabintop is bolted on, I don't see a simple transition. If you have an entire top that can be replaced......by all means go for it.Brad

Pop top question

First, I learned something. I thought that all Catalina 22s came standard with a pop top. I saw one at the lake several weeks ago and couldn't figure out if was really a Cat 22 because it had no logo.Second, I actually agree with both previous comments. I have the pop top and use it everytime that we sail. I really like it because of the additional head room and the nice ventilation that it gives.Would I install one on a boat that came without it? Not on your life. It would be a MAJOR modification and probably wouldn't be satisfactory in the end. As much as I like mine, I would not go through the hassle to gain one, and I am not normally squeemish about projects. Like the first comment said, stay with what you have and enjoy it as is.

CHIP, I CAN GIVE YOU THE MEASUREMENTS OF THE POP TOP OPENING ON MY C22 IF THAT WILL HELP. LET ME KNOW, I GO TO JUPITER WHERE THE BOAT IS BING WORKED ON 11/16/01.BOB
